Call back after being interviewed? What to ask? How do I ask that?

I was interviewed at a T-Mobile Retail store on December 30th, 2011 and today is January 4th, 2012. After the interview was complete they told me they would call back in a week if I was going to be scheduled for a second interview, or if I got the job. Tomorrow would be a week since the interview, so I am wondering if I should call back and if I do call back what should I ask and how should I ask it?

A lot of companies tell applicants that they will get a call back IF they got the job or for a second interview. This is an attempt to lessen the number of calls they get from people who have interviewed. If you do not get a call back then it is safe to assume you did not get the job.
In the future, it is a good idea to send a thank you note to the interviewer within a day or so of the interview and mention something you found interesting about the position or the company.
Good luck.

I had the same exact situation happen to me twice last year. The 1st one was with TXU energy and the 2nd one was with my college (for an office assistant job) They told me the same exact thing and got my hopes up. Unfortunately, they didn’t call back and I’m still stuck working @ JCPenney for $8.11 an hour. I apologize, I do not intend to discourage you or anything. But anyways, my advice is, if you can afford, it is not inappropriate to send them a thank you note for their time and thank them for considering you. Assume as if you didn’t get the job and just thank them for their time. I honestly don’t think you should go through that much trouble for T-Mobile because they really don’t deserve it. [They would much rather appreciate some1 who is really good at sales and who can make them a lot of money] But anyways, I’ve never done it before but I kind of regret not doing so after interviewing with a position with Metlife insurance.
