How do internet companies start?
Besides the obvious of being a great idea, how did internet companies like ebay, amazon, overstock, and so on get started? How did they get from being a great idea in someones head to actually working and turning into the companies that they are today? I have an idea for a new internet company but I have no idea how I would even go about trying to start it. Thanks.
Ebay started since the founder liked to collect Pez dispensers and wanted to collect more. The first item that sold was a broken pen laser. They emailed the customer making sure he wanted to buy a broken laser pen. The buyer replied back he collects broken laser pens. Ebay knew from that point they had developed a wonderful idea.
Amazon started when the founder worked at a Investment company. He later learned about book databases while doing research and new that selling books online would be easier and more profitable than selling from a bookstore. Storing books in a warehouse would be easier along with the ISBN technology or bar coding of books in a database.
Actually starting an Internet business is easy because all you need to do is start a website and develop it with blogs, Facebook, store commerce site taking credit cards and shopping 24/7. Cost is fairly inexpensive compared to a physical store costing rent. Best thing is waking up and having Internet sales. Also use Google Adsense or keyword buys to promote your store and idea. A lot of people start on Ebay, Etsy, Amazon or do their own website for instance using Google or Yahoo shopping. You can also do sales using Skype or using Apple Facetime.
